MOLAS are works of art made with several layers of woven cloths.  They are made in Central  America by the Kuna Indians .    Often described as 'reverse applique', they are hand stitched with thousands of tiny 'invisible' stitches.
A pattern is cut out of one layer and for each color a different layer of cloth is carefully hemmed and stitched to the next layer with inlay and overlay applique.
The theme of the mola is determined by the imagination of the artist. They usually portray an object or living form, such as animals and plants, which the artist believes possess a spirit that will bring GOOD LUCK
