Often hobbyists go years without testing their battery backup, only to get under 10 minutes of runtime when they need it most. Lead acid batteries last around three years before needing to be replaced. This voltage monitor for the Ecotech Marine battery backup lets you see the voltage of the battery (when you unplug the charger) and monitor its capacity while being used.
If the voltage and corresponding battery icon drops quickly, you will need to either DIY replace the internal battery (~, details on Reef2Reef), or purchase another.
This plugs into one of the two pump outputs, so can only be used when you are using a single output for a pump. That is best practice to extend run time anyway.
